Sitter med en c-uppsats om männens roll på kvinnoanstalterna. Det finns forsking i Canada "The Cross Gender Monitoring Project" där man kom fram till att män INTE ska arbeta med dessa kvinnor.
Själv har jag jobbat i många år och ser att vi allt ska finnas där, men med klara roller och utbildning.
Vad säger ni.... inlåst i en cell på natten och när du ska på toa öppnar det en man... bara ett exempel?

Du jag har undrat en sak jättelänge och du kanske vet. Varför är har vi könsseparerade fängelser överhuvudtaget, dvs varför finns det fängelser för bara män och andra för bara kvinnor? Finns det öht några som är blandade och vilka i såfall?

Huruvida det bör eller inte bör arbeta män på kvinnoanstalter... jag kan inte se varför det inte skulle gå bra? Vet du mer om varför man kom fram till att man inte skulle göra det i Canada?

"Those who propose not allowing males to work in front line positions base their rationales on three main concerns. The first is the increased risk for privacy violations and sexual misconduct as well as the related issue of increased fear and flashbacks to earlier abuse by of males entrusted with authority. The perceived or actual potential for further sexual abuse/misconduct can interfere with the healing process for many women prisoners. It is also reasoned that the high percentage of sexual abuse experience among women prisoners, particularly from males in trust relationships, justifies female only front line workers. It is proposed that the equality provisions of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms do support protection of privacy and security of the person for women prisoners.

Another fundamental thesis is the challenge to the notion that women prisoners will experience a normalizing environment if males are employed in front line security positions. It is argued that the very nature of the power imbalance inherent in this relationship of prisoner and guard cannot be seen to be normalizing. A normalized positive relationship between a male and female can only be in the context of a greater balance of power. While it is true that most FSW females do not enjoy full equality with males in the community, the profound power of front line workers over the daily lives of women prisoners is at the opposite end of the continuum.

A third concern relates to the impact on female Primary Workers of necessary restrictions on the role of male Primary Workers in women's facilities. Women PWs must do all the invasive security duties, often reducing their role in counselling, release planning and program delivery. Female PWs also must assume a substantial amount of night work. Male PWs are essentially doing a different job, it is argued, one that is understandably more popular with women prisoners, as males do not perform strip searches, urinalysis, frisks and patdowns. Women staff are therefore seen as disadvantaged and their conditions of employment are negatively affected by having male PWs."

Har faktiskt inte orkat analysera hela den hör biten (sitter med splittrad uppmärksamhet mellan dator, TV och sporadiska telefonsamtal...), men ¨så här har de skrivit!

Det skedde en våldtäkt på den gamla Lindomeanstalten och det resulterade i att man från myndigheternas utredde frågan. Svaret finns att läsa i "Riktlinjer för Fängelsedömnda Kvinnor" och kan väl sägas kort att kvinnorna utnyttjas i balandade anstalter. Man behåller även den könsmaktstruktur som är stark i kriminella- och
missbrukskretsar. Kan se i Kolfjord m.fl. litteratur att våld, sexuella övergrepp är mer regel än undantag i missbrukarkretsar.

Min tanke är denna... att vi som män som arbetar med dessa kvinnor, är inte vi som andra män. Dvs. att det även ibland oss finns män som slår kvinnor (privat), genom sin okunskap om kvinnornas problematik kanske gör handlingar som får motsatt effekt... t.ex. lägger en arm om en ledsen intagen osv.
Själv tror jag på utbildning, reflektioner... ett gott urval för oss män som skall arbeta med kvinnor under maktutövning.

Läser Sveggos inlägg om "the kross gender monitoring project" i Kanada... söker för tillfället en tjänsteman i Kanada som kan berätta hur det gick. Vad jag förstår blev det en bra utredning, men sen.... var den för kontroversiell, hon som skrev den släppte även in så kallade National Stakeholders att tycka till. Dvs. nationella intressegrupper... kvinnogrupper m.fl.
